Job Description

The Senior Trainer for Disaster Preparedness will be responsible for developing and delivering trainings related to the project that enhance community resilience and preparedness for disasters. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of disaster risk management and excellent facilitation skills to effectively engage diverse audiences.

Requirements

Design and develop training materials and curricula tailored to local communities’ needs and contexts, including modules on hazard identification, risk assessment, early warning system and emergency response.
Create engaging educational resources, such as manuals, guides, and visual aids, to support training sessions.
Conduct training sessions and workshops for community members, local leaders, school teacher and students and project staff on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
Conduct PRA to capture traditional knowledge from elders and farmers about environment change and timeline of events.
Utilize participatory methods to enhance learning, including simulations and role-playing exercises.
In close Coordination with DP – Project Manager and DP- Project Coordinator train community members on the use of early warning systems and communication tools for disaster alerts.
Provide the necessary training for both project staff and the target communities.
When requires in close coordination with other field staff conduct drills and tabletop exercises to practice emergency response protocols and improve community readiness.
Guide communities in developing local disaster management plans and contingency strategies.
Assess the training needs of communities and adapt programs to address identified gaps in knowledge and skills.
Mentor and support local community trainers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through participant feedback (pre- and post-test) and assessments, making adjustments as necessary.
Collect and analyze data on participant engagement and learning outcomes, reporting findings to the Project Manager.
In close coordination with field staff collaborate with local organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote disaster preparedness initiatives.
When instructed participate in community meetings and forums to raise awareness about disaster risk reduction
The holder of this position must strictly follow the organization's existing security policies, procedures, and daily instructions of the safety personnel.
Any other duties assigned by the line manager.
